Creating Empowerment Through Autonomy (CETA) is a Renowned nonprofit organization established in 2003, offering services in Georgia whose mission is to mobilize people and resources to propel overall health and wellness. Part of our 2018 third quarter initiative is to assist with affordable housing. Our Board member Justin Giles has over 20 years of experience in the real estate market in the Atlanta area and the metros.
CETA recognized the urgent need to address all facets of health and wellness and developed its core principles, which are: Mental, Physical, Social, Spiritual, Environmental, Intellectual, Occupational, and Financial.
CETA was launched in 2003 in Orlando, Florida with a focus on eliminating the dependent life cycle and breaking generational dependency. Lola Robinson and her eldest son, Stevie Baggs Jr., who at the time of its inception was a 3-time All-American football player at Bethune-Cookman University, founded the CETA Foundation. Baggs was also the first person in his family to attend and graduate from a university. A philanthropist at heart, Lola Robinson worked with the Orange County Youth and Family Services as a platform to begin her philanthropic endeavors. Since its early days, Lola would mentor young girls from local group homes illustrating the importance of etiquette and self-worth.
CETA’s first program was Project STEP Striving for Excellence through Better Performance an incentive program created to target high school students with failing GPA’s and FCAT scores. In 2005 CETA started a program called P.A.S. Parents & Students a series of workshops created to assist economically challenged families with establishing healthy home environments for children in school. This was a program implemented by Jones High School in Orlando, FL.
In 2007 CETA was also incorporated in the state of Georgia where the Stevie Baggs Professional Football Camp and Life skills clinic was born. Baggs’ camp showcased the importance of life skills such as Sexual Awareness and Personal Hygiene, Financial Economic Challenges, and Determining Your Success. These courses were prerequisites that the players had to finish before hitting the field to hone in on their football skills.
2009 marked a year of expansion for CETA’s Health & wellness platform where CETA premiered the HIV/AIDS awareness cocktail reception hosted by Stevie Baggs Jr. & Demetria McKinney. This event raised awareness and gave outlets to those in need of help with regard to this terrible disease. In 2010 CETA took its programming to CANADA where the 1st annual Co-ed Athletic Symposium was launched to allow boys and girls of all sports to be involved in the growth and development of their skills on and off the field/court.
The CETA Foundation has adopted a family in need every Christmas for the past 7 years. One of the flagship events that CETA uses to raise funds, toys, and awareness for this is event is the CETA Celebrity Bowl For a Cause. This event gives families the opportunity to have fun all while giving back; this event also showcases celebrity participants who have a love for giving as well during the holiday season.
In 2014 CETA celebrated 11 years of service all while preparing for the 3rd annual Athletic, Arts, & Entertainment Symposium. The 2 new components were added to draw more students in each concentration beyond the realm of sports. Another addition to this program was to involve the parents in the life skills portion of the symposium which include Domestic Violence/Non-Violence, Health & Wellness, & Economic Empowerment courses. CETA will be hostingthe City of Atlanta Health & Wellness 5k; where all objectives surrounding health & wellness can come together to spread the news about the ultimate goal of being a healthier nation.
In addition, CETA is an official partner of the City of Atlanta & the Centers of Hope. In the fall of 2013, CETA Inc. partnered with Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed and his Centers of Hope to implement “TRUE WEALTH” an after-school program for youth and young adults that promotes holistically identifying and developing their strengths and talents.
CETA Foundations objective is to focus on the importance of education, technology, leadership and character building, and of course health and wellness. CETA’s innovative programs and services focus on the whole person and improve the quality of life.
